What happened to Gab is kind of like what happened to 8ddit-except their downfall was performance issues that weren't addressed for like six months and schizophrenic moderation that made 4chan's look completely reasonable in comparison. Gab just seemed to get a surge of activity that died quickly and organically for no particular reason-people are just fickle I guess.

I think why Brendan was butthurt wasn't that they copied Brave but that they were talking shit and fudding before and after they'd done it. I'm not 100% sure though.

Kind of disappointed in Brendan for getting visibly butthurt (why make something open source if you're going to get mad at someone, even another company, copying it-it's not just a buzzword lol), but unless I'm mistaken Gab has been fudding Brave from near the beginning for pretty much no real reason-other than the fact that they aren't using whatever crypto the Gab staff are invested in maybe, i.e. the posts you see on here:

I fundamentally believe in-if nothing else-the "spirit" of both projects (Brave's browser and Gab's social network) and think there's plenty of space in the market for both, so to see the two being antagonistic towards eachother is unfortunate but in the end I don't really give a shit.

In the end Gab is pretty much demographically irrelevant whereas Brave is not/is becoming less so by the day, and I think that's where this cringe-inducing nerd fight's origins truly begin.
