You are kind of in the weird middle ground where you probably want to keep a good portion of that in cash or FDIC-insured near-instant accessible deposits as an e-fund. That said. My rec is $10k stays in cash, the other $18k goes to investments. What "investments" means to you depends on your near- to mid- term plans as >>52441741
alludes to, along with how much time you have to spend monitoring the market. If you do chose to pick up some individual stocks, personally I wouldn't recommend more than $1k-2k to start as you'll need some time to get used to reading 10K's, finding financial analysis you trust, seeing what good/bad events do to a stock you hold, etc.
