There really isn't enough info to make a decision on, given your example.
IRL, I wouldn't have perfect information, and cannot know what will happen next - the circumstances of my actions....

But, the scenario STILL needs more info.
Am I just leaning against a door in an alley, and stumbled upon this? Are there other people around? Other rooms leading from this room? Is it in trashbags in the alley? In a cellar I discover? In a city, disappearing or keeping low-key are easier, versus this being in the middle of nowhere.

Assuming non-ideal circumstances, I have to make a quick decision?
The quick answer is stuff as much as I can into my pants, using a shirt or bag, etc and hightail it outta there.

From there, I'm making a necklace on string from highest grade rarest diamonds I can get, that are not too obviously large or raise red flags. Gems in the 5-10k range.
Then cut off and sell a gem or two as I need to.
