Hey, /biz/

So I was just put in charge of some money by my parents who recently came into a big inheritance from my grandparents. They say if I do well with $3,000, they'll put me in charge of more. Problem is, I'm not sure where to start.

I've got a few ideas, though. If the interest rates get raised, banks will make more money off loans, so it'd be a good time to invest in them, right? And if a Republican wins the election, we're likely to see a more direct response to ISIS, so Defense Contractors would be a good investment too.

Are there any agreed upon resources /biz/ recommends? Either for general investment advice or changes in the market that might go unnoticed because they aren't pegged to a big headline. Also, why don't we have a sticky of generally correct information like /fit/?
