leaf musicfag here. i studied at the central conservatory of music in beijing (basically the juilliard of china) and it was pretty intense - like 6 hours of practice a day; 3 hours guided, 3 solo. The teachers were really strict during lessons and they'll make you feel like shit if you slack off, but you'll get turbo good real fast if you can handle harsh criticism. Outside of lessons, my teachers were really nice and ate/drank with me. they're still friends of mine.
i'd recommend traveling to hunan province - way better than beijing in almost every regard. super pretty, not as polluted at bj, and the food is some of the best i've ever eaten
