>Will the estate sale company look at me sideways for bringing a kitchen scale?
They might, but who cares? It's nothing that'll get you escorted out or b& or anything if that's what you're worried about. It might activate the almonds of other shoppers and encourage them to look for cheapies too tho. Bring your own sturdy reusable shopping bag to carry slurps and the scale so people don't see you carrying it around the whole time.
>Other than getting there first, is there anything else I should look out for?
Look for desirable makers like Tiffany, antique aesthetic movement or "mixed metal" sterling silver items by companies such as Gorham or Whiting like picrel, or really desirable patterns like Shreve & Co's "14th century" pattern. Fancy little things like "vestas" (matchstick cases), pillboxes, sewing pin containers, tea infuser balls etc. are also often worth many times melt.
>Is it reasonable to negotiate if you're spending a lot?
Might be possible if it's a 1-off sale ran by the family, but if it's by an actual estate sale company then no usually prices are all quite firm, the 1/3 or 1/2-off discounts come after Noon or on the 2nd/3rd day. They may be wise to "STERLING" marked stuff but often don't understand English sterloing hallmarks or European silver alloys like .800, .830, .835 etc.
