Everyone can use their tokens how they see fit, that includes the exchange.
If you say destroying tokens means profit, I'll take your word for it!
To me it sounds like a basic supply and demand issue.
If the apple harvest fails, and there's not enough apples to go around, prices may go up, however that's not guaranteed and it does not makes apples a security.
