It's literally the mentality of a con-man to involve the law to try and give legitimacy to their claims. Every single con-man you can look at what they did and wonder to yourself "how the fuck were they so dumb to think they would get away with this without getting locked up?" and the answer is always that they're sociopaths that think they're god and above all consequence.

So yeah, anyone can do it, but most people wouldn't see the value in taking such a huge risk just to say they did it. Craig has every reason to do it because he has the money, and he has the lie he needs to perpetuate, and he thinks he's above the law with how much he cites it and throws it around.

People following Craig are the same people that probably defended this guy until the day he got sent to federal.
