Retirement age used to be 65, you would be retired and be rightfully paid until death, usually around 10 to 15 years later.
However, now people live longer, and there's a whole lot more leeches hanging around until 85 or even 95.
The government is so poorly run it cannot afford to pay it, so out of laziness they simply want you to work longer so they don't have to pay.

I think all unemployed leeches should have benefits axed altogether. Only those actively seeking work (you receive max of 3 months to find a job).

Anyway, france is fucked more ways then one. Realistically the entire EU would be better managed entirely ran by Germany. Whether or not you disagree is irrelevant, they have the most efficient and profitable economy outside of the Nords
