Buying back-dated restrike Ducats was one of the only ways for US citizens to legally buy Gold in the 60s and early 70s since Ducats were exempt from the ban on Gold in effect at the time.
100 Coronas and other restrikes were made for the domestic market back in Austria to get around other arbitrary restrictions they had placed on themselves, but a lot of restrike ducats were exported to the US.
