They're not in for the money. What's more likely is that they legitimately enjoy what they're doing or want to leave a trace of their existence behind. You can't pinpoint a single reason to explain why humans want attention, it's just a basic trait in a lot of people. There are a lot of twitch channels like that too, who keep streaming to the same audience of 10-15 people and are having a good time despite not being popular. Not everything has to be about soulless infinite growth. Youtube lost its appeal and became TV 2.0 exactly because greed replaced willingness to share as the main motivator.
