I can't speak for the other guy, but I calculated my government taxes last year (Federal, State and Local combined). I live in rural Ohio where the taxes aren't too bad. I made about $80k before taxes. The government took 35% of my income. This isn't even including sales tax (which is about 6% - 7% where I live) or property tax (which is about 1.25% where I live). So, I guess technically you could say my actual tax rate is 43%. I have no idea how much higher that number would be in LA California or similar. This is all before I pay any bills or buy groceries. It's actually pretty fucked up.
