Said that no one would except generic rounds or bars without a heavy discount because no one would be able to verify if it was real or not. I told them I think most people would break thier coins down to make small trades and that would also allow them to see if its a real or plated coin regardless of it being a generic round/bar, or government mint coin/bar. Also nations have minted coins made to be broken into pieces to make change so its also a long practiced tried and true method as well.
