Please help a socially-stunted spaghetti-spilling but sometimes okay when not on the spot sperglord how to build and maintain connections.

Last summer, I was given the opportunity to write a large number of propaganda stories about numerous small-to-big businesspeople in my city. I have since contacted none of them because none of the stories saw print (I was one of the only people to make quota so I think the whole project's been bumped ahead a year), and had hoped to do so at that time to touch base with as many as I could.

I've been back at my blue-collar job (>just suicide) for a while now and I want to transition out of here already. There are a few people I interviewed I would like to worm my way into communication with. What are some good general tips for reconnecting over email or in person, specifically ones that may work in my position?
