very painful to be in a family where you can see (usually female) relatives squandering the wealth that was a result of the hard work of their ancestors

but it's a good motivator- I never know what/if/when I'll inherit anything, but at least I'm in a good position to work for enough income to suport myself and have a good savings rate.
