It did happen in the US, maybe not to the extent that it happened in your country, but it did occur. Most of the online dealers and Coin shops were cleaned out of silver bullion and running low on gold for a couple weeks in March. Pic related is the last silver round my LCS had when I got there.

I bought pic related back during the March dip for $15, it was the last silver round in my LCS. This single round has increased in value more than my savings account has gained interest over the same period of time. Needless to say, I'm going to convert the savings account into PMs soon.
