Intel SGX does this. It encrypts the data in a way where the person who gets the data can't really see what it is there, but he can execute work on the data and the work done will be correct... In that sense that if I send a iExec worker a "work item" that says "calculate 2+2" he won't know I'm asking what 2+2 is, but he will be able to solve it and return the correct result.
This if of course great, because big firms don't want to reveal what they're doing. And here that is possible in a decentralized manner which means no big ass data center required in order to provide computing power, because ANYONE can join with a really shitty computer and provide power
