$1 is such a magical number that most likely most wimps will try to cash out there, causing a mass panic sell and making it crash down every time it comes close. Some of that will also happen at around .10, .20 and .50, most likely.
It's important that the coin gets mass acceptance in many places as payment method so that huge crashes don't hurt too much.
