the real insane thing is the physics behind it (deriving the fucking plane equations to map out the drop's internal stress field too)

because of how it cools when the drop is formed, the outside of the bulb is basically trying crack in every single place at the same time, and the inner core of the bulb is too due to huge residual stress, but this stress actually works to strengthen instead of weaken the bulb (but if a slight force causes the weak tail to break, such as the inertia from the tail's own weight if the drop just moves too fast, the crack will propagate to every single point in the drip at (essentially) the same instant

basically you cant break off a piece of the drop, breaking one part of the object (one crack, one dent, one scratch, no matter how small), causes the entire object to break, and with such a high internal pressure, when the part fails, it fails explosively
