Once the keyguard is re-written for 3rd party use, the team will make the code open sourced to allow any merchant to adopt and implement Nimiq into their websites.

I think according to their latest vlog the newest version of Nimiq Core is out with community nodes which should stabilize the network and eradicate the syncing issues. Now they're working on the Rust implementation and allowing 3rd parties to access KeyGuard, which will allow merchants to adopt it and put it in as a payment option natively in web based solutions.
