Landlord here. I buy all my houses from retards like you who think a house costs nothing but mortgage +taxes. Every house i get has a minimum of 3 decades of deferred maintenance. Most of my tenants could afford home ownership if they wanted (i know because i run extensive background checks on every single one), they would just rather rent rehabilitated victorian era houses from me instead and not have to deal with the hastle.

The federal and state governments make it stupid to be an entrepreneur. You can skate by while still small, but as soon as you start making real money government goons start getting involved, wanting their slice of your fat. In the year 1900, you could start a business with no license, paid zero taxes on employees, had zero chance of being taken to court for discrimination, and paid zero income tax on your earnings. Now the laws are all written to benefit entrenched interests and the already wealthy. This means the path of least resistance to wealth is to copy the already wealthy (stocks, bonds, real estate). I would rather be involved with actually making shit, but i pay basically no taxes by doing real estate instead. This makes socialism the most ironic political ideology, the more state control is implemented, the harder it is for regular people to navigate byzantine regulations to become well-off.
