Around people I know, though? Precious metals seem to emanate power, even around people who know virtually nothing of it. If nothing else, I think everyone at least understands the LENGTH of the massive history behind it, and so maybe they have an unconscious understanding of its value, giving it an almost supernaturally stable worth. Its stability seems almost holy or containing divine-like power relative to the surroundings of the room in which I show them this silver bar... the furniture, the computer, the house, the clothes on my person, my body itself; they shall all wither away in time along with ethereal computer tokens and Jewish financial inventions. But this.. this shimmering bar of metal?

Their eyes ask if they can hold it. Like holding a puppy or a baby. Almost as though they wouldn't protest if you asked them in a hushed voice to wear some gloves beforehand. "It's the only thing in this room that will continue to be used well beyond our own lifetimes," their subconscious mind wordlessly suggests. Their NPC mind feels threatened by this encroachment of original thought, but the NPC decides to indulge it, if only just for a moment.

Then their temporarily inter-phase mind cools off and solidifies back into its old patterns, but not without this new addition alongside them.
