I agree the 11B tariffs on EU aren't a big deal on their own
The issue is how the EU reacts
What do you think they will do? just stay silent and take the tariffs? I think they might.
EU choices are:
-accept the tariffs, maintain airbus subsidies. Trump gets a small win, more like a neutral value.
-eliminate airbus subsidies. big win for trump, looks very good to American workers. This would encourage Trump to take mroe action of the sort
-retaliate

I just think the EU's options aren't very good, and it could lead to an escalation on one side or the other
If they bitch out completely Trump administration might see it as an invitation to push them around more (which will earn him votes in a re-election setting, if he is hitting out at companies that compete with American companies).
