What's going on is that DeFi is starting to get traction, and the first two tentative success stories, Synthetix and AAVE, are notably two of the first projects to integrate Chainlink oracle.
The way I see it is that over the next year we will see a steady growth in successful DeFi applications running on Chainlink, with occasional disasters but general success stories, and punctuating that will be occasional huge bombshells coming from LINK's big-end-of-town integrations and WEF networking.
I'm feeling more bullish than I have in a long time. Crypto is actually turning into something useful, and DeFi (powered by Chainlink) is leading the charge.
We're in at the ground floor and we're all going to make it.

But the development of faster blockchains has been massively outpaced by ways to perform off chain computations and provide secure attestations of bundles of transactions. While no platform has managed to convincingly and securely outpace Ethereum at scale, technologies like ZKrollups and threshold signatures have increased the efficiency of secure off-chain computation by a factor of 1000.
So increasingly it is looking like decentralised platforms, rather than being the computational layer, will instead be a proving layer where attested, secure off-chain computing is submitted.
This is obviously good news for decentralised platforms as a whole, as it massively reduces the transactional and computational load of any application, which by extension vastly increases the capacity of the platform to handle a high volume of complex smart contract applications.

honestly my biggest lesson from buying LINK at ICO and being pretty much all in ever since, is how fucking long the market can take to figure out what you know. The market still doesn't fucking know. But buying on ED before SIBOS I felt like "Holy shit I need to go all in and get as much of this shit as possible before I get priced out." Then months go by, then a year, then confirmation on confirmation on fucking confirmation.
OpenZeppelin, Kaleido, Web3, every fucking Sergey talk, now he's on a panel with Gonser, SXSW, so much fucking information and STILL like fucking NOBODY outside of /biz/ is paying even the tiniest piece of attention.
