This is the interest rate that the treasury is offering in order to get boomers and foreigners to lend it money.
Treasury Bills (tbills) compete with gold for the market for a safe stable place to park capital.
When tbills are offered at a higher yeild it makes them more attractive to investors.
So it can be bearish for gold, and by extension all precious metals, since other PMs follow gold to an extent.
Alternatively one can imagine that the treasury is offering higher yield because the treasury feels that it HAS TO offer higher yield inorder to attract investors.
Which could be a sign of dollar weakness and an expectation of future inflation or treasury default risk.
Which could be considered bullish for precious metals.
