Chicago suburbs are pretty based, but I don't think they're "affordable". Evanston, Wilmette and Winnetka for example are like something out of an 80's movie. They're picturesque, mostly white, extremely comfy - but you basically have to be a Big Law attorney making $400,000 to live there or you'll have to live in a dinky apartment or something. Basically, the north suburbs are the epitome of WASP upper class, but not at all affordable.

The Western suburbs are more affordable but less white. Naperville, Schaumburg and Lisle for example are still nice places to live, but less affordable. The Western suburbs would be your best bet - you can find a nice mix of affordable, safe, pretty and away from the hustle and bustle of the city (niggers/spics/etc.).

The further south you get (closer to Indiana) the uglier and more dangerous the suburbs are going to get, but also the more affordable the houses/cities will be. So it's kind of up to you to find the right suburb that fits your criteria. The cool thing about Chicago suburbs is, you can always be the White Suburb family that comes into the city for a Cubs game/Bears game/etc. for the weekend, enjoy the best parts of the city, and then get the fuck out of there to go enjoy the best parts of suburbia. Pretty comfy. Also all the socialist kiddo's that are poor as shit from DePaul or whatever will hate your guts for being wealthy and white which is hilarious.
