Why is there a need to send temperature and weather info into blockchain?

In Chainlink's case, the oracles are connected to the Ethereum network. Oracles provide external data (e.g. temperature, weather) that trigger smart contract executions upon the fulfillment of predefined conditions.

I've spent 10-15 min trying to figure out exactly what this token is used for and I'm starting to think this token is purposely confusing because it doesn't actually do anything or have any real purpose.
