The cannibal collapse simply would never happen. You have to remember people will always naturally fall back to a state of order and peace because we don't actually like killing each other. The only time large groups of people get together to murder each other is when their GOVERNMENTS force them to do it. The natural state is not to fight but instead find common ground and agreement.

You could have a failure of the banks, the electrical grid, the government, and the transportation system and society won't collapse because those things aren't "society." Society is something that exists in the background and those institutions are a product of it, not the cause of it.
