I still didn't completely lose hope of eventually figuring out a way to get back the coins, especially because one of the piece of 8 is a rare version/date worth a big chunk of $$, and i'd be butthurt not finding a way to add her to my collection, but without the knowledge nor the tools it's tricky for me.

Or simply sell it back as such? for reference the ashtray is made from x5 spanish/mexican/peruvian mints pieces of 8, x1 4 Reales Carlos IV from Sevilla's mint iirc, and x1 french Louis XV's Ecu. About half the coins have various countermarks from chineses and japs trading posts, so they went on long trips. In the event i get to separate them tho, the Ecu is done for, since she serve as base where all the others coins are attached to.

That's approx 180gr of silver from the coins, then few extra grams from the solders and tiny silver patches here and there to make it a sealed item. I remember paying spot value of FS for it, so around 115€. I'm not in a hurry to sell it because it's quite the fondle piece lol, but the day i want to do so, i don't believe there isn't a world where some collectors wouldn't be interested in, considering how popular pieces of 8 are.

That's me yes. I paid below spot for it, which is beyond absurd knowing the price of spanish pieces of 8 nowaday...
And earlier this month i scooped a set of x8 silverware pieces from fucking Louis XV's Versailles collection, once again below spot for stuff who should be in a museum. The guy didn't know what he was selling, but still i find it surreal..

Idk if it is because ppl are desperate for cash or just are simply thrashing the collections of their recently dead relatives at whatever pricetag.
