So I think I realized why robinhood is doing this. They operate as some kind of parallel to the stock market, where if you buy a share on robinhood, it doesn't mean you've bought a share on say NYSE, you just bought it from their 'holding' of shares that they personally own. So if Robinhood owns 10k shares of GME, and sells 15k shares, and the general sentiment is 'hold at all costs' then yeah that would explain why they're forcing people to sell against their wishes. They oversold just like Melvin, and class action suits cost a lot less than whatever the SEC will fine them if this comes to light.
