the only meaningful idea i gathered was that in a market where data aggregators are chainlink nodes, there is no reason for additional decentralization beyond the api/node layer selling their data because third party nodes wouldn't add any additional security and they would be more expensive, so no one would use them; but their are at least 2 problems with this: they would offer additional security by being independent attestors to the api's signature off chain (saving gas) attached to a report of the data point, and api providers stand to generate more revenue by both selling their data directly as a node AND by selling their data to nodes, in particular, if they sell their data directly at a lower price directly as an oracle node, then third party nodes can't compete and have no incentive to buy an api subscription in the first place: the api provider loses; consequently, the api provider either will not sell their data directly to contracts as an oracle node or they will do so but at the same price point as third party nodes, such as to not put the third party nodes out of business and retain them as api subscribers; we circle back to the first question then: do third party nodes offer additional security strictly as reporters of api data (to say nothing of secondary security assurances they could provide)? YES, REALLOCATION OF RISK VIA STAKING, will api providers acting as oracle nodes want to absorb all of the risk of the data transfer layer? fuck no, they will split that up among themselves and third party nodes; third party nodes get the right to payment for providing off chain data to consuming contracts by ASSUMING RISK, also, supposing that not every oracle has access to every api provider, then decentralizing beyond the number of api providers isn't a benefit, it's a necessity

chainlink has first mover and a strong network effect by a HUGE margin, but this isn't the sole source of the networks value

i haven't even discussed the technicals (or fundamentals maybe is a more appropriate word), the technology chainlink brings are these: threshold signatures and arbitrum for scaling the oracle responses and (private but trusted) off chain contract execution respectively; deco and mixicles for on or off chain private, pseudonymous, but auditable contract execution; town crier (trusted execution environments) for private off chain computation (iffy) but more importantly tamper proof inputs and outputs (stronger security); LINK staking as an economic assurance; and in the laboratory: homomorphic encryption which allows for computation on ciphertext, thereby enabling on chain fully private contract execution, dunno if/when this one is going to land though, all the others will likely be within 12 months, i would go into more detail but im too tired, enjoy your purchase

yes, you see all those 700 million USD locked up in defi, that's only going to increase as people realize the enormous savings that a shared ledger affords, LINK will be staked by nodes to insure those funds, stakes will likely be overcollateralized too to hedge volatility in the token, we all know what happens when supply dries up in the face of constant or increasing demand

i flipped all of my non LINK positions into LINK throughout 2018 and premainnet 2019 except for BTC and enough ETH to cover gas fees, im accumulating ETH now though, i would keep accumulating LINK but it would raise my dca above 50 cents and i have enough

in summary it's probably sergey or someone close to the team saying that yes currently trust is centralized in chainlinks KYC but that's necessary to kickstart the network, also a few things about that 1) it's not fully centralized since the multiple nodes offer redundancy and have identities which are verifiably independent parties 2) big tech firms will join as nodes and their reputation and variety will provide sybil resistance (since adversarial behavior would be immutably trackable on the blockchain and ruin their reputations in real life) 3) once this version of the network starts demonstrating reliability neet nodes will be allowed to join and their performance and reputation will be pegged to the established nodes responses and kyc will no longer be needed

basically yes just buy LINK we're only just starting the 4IR is going to happen because of smart contracts on DLT's and they need secure middleware to get the requisite data
