What you should do is go to the arraignment on the ticket and plead not guilty.
The judge will set a date for the trial, so then when you come back, the prosecutor will approach you to make a deal.
Tell him you don’t want any points and that the fine is a massive financial burden.
At the very least they’ll drop the charge to something that won’t add points to your license.

Personally, I pay my lawyer $200 to do all that for me, and he’ll get me the best deal without even having to show up to court once.
Fuck these pathetic cops for hassling normal, hard working people.
