Is accounting a good career choice for a mid twenties doomer? I was thinking of doing AAT then ACCA while wagecucking.

Why didn't you try harder, /biz/? Life really isn't that hard. It's just a process.

I look at all the people worrying or complaining about their lives on here, and I just can't figure out what the big deal is. I've been pretty average my whole life. I graduated upper third of my high school class. I went to college at a decent public university in California and I graduated with like 30k debt. I messed around and partied just like everyone else in college. I crammed for all of my exams last minute and I graduated with a pretty bland GPA of 3.5. I majored in Economics, which was just not that difficult. Some of the econ classes were kinda hard, but I just balanced out my GPA with gen eds.

I'm finishing up my first year at a middle-market investment bank in SF. I made a base salary of $75,000 this year, and a $45,000 bonus. I didn't make the cut for the bulge brackets. This was all I got. I never networked or hustled. My parents were immigrants with little income and no connections, and I was on the wrong side of affirmative action. I just applied to a bunch of jobs through on campus recruiting, got rejected at all of the bulge bracket banks, and accepted to a few middle markets and boutiques. My interviews were whatever, they just covered what I learnt in class.

I'm pretty content, and by some people's metrics supposedly wealthy. My boss (my VP) showed me his paystub. He's under 30 years old and he made $600,000. With already a year of work experience on my resume, when I inevitably burn out or get laid off, I can pretty easily get a $150,000 a year job in FP&A at a f500. All of my friends I graduated with are doing fine too, as long as they did sensible majors. My software engineer friend started at 6 figures. My management consultant buddy is breaking 90 grand and he loves his job. Sometimes I wish I can trade places with them whenever my job gets too demanding. But why is it that people on here make it sound so hard? 6 figures is so easy. You just need to try.
