For the benefit of the lurkers I will give you a proper response. Even when the Roman empire collapsed life continued as normal and Roman coinage was still used. The world does not become mad max. People will continue to work, farmers will plant crops, and regional powers will simply replace the current global hegemon.
People will be poorer and life harder but things will continue. With respect to silver/gold you can either use it for trade or save it until a new system is constructed. This allows you to transfer wealth from the old to the new.
What about guns? Of course you should own them and be able to defend yourself and your community but ammo is not a fungible commodity nor a store of wealth. One you have an amount you feel is sufficient you place your excess capital into gold/silver.
