IL is overrated. All it means is that if you provide, say, ABC/XYZ liquidity, and if XYZ moons and never comes back down, you will make less money than if you had just held onto your XYZ in a cold wallet.

Uniswap sells a little bit of your XYZ with every price increase, and buys some XYZ every dip. Vice versa for the other component. That's all it does.

The cost of IL is opportunity cost, you never actually lose money. You just make less money with your algorithm than compared to a perfect trading strategy. Which you're never going to implement anyway. Be honest, you're just going to buy high and sell low if left to your own impulses.

The most dangerous pairs are (ETH/WBTC/shitcoin) paired against a stablecoin. Those run the risk of selling into a moonlaunch or buying into an apocalyptic gigabear. When the pair is two non-stable cryptos though, their ratio can oscillate around regardless of the overall market going bear or bull. ETH and WBTC for example, forever chase one another on the ratio. Leave some ETH/WBTC alone and forget about it, come back in a year and you'll have more sats and gwei than you started with.
