I've heard it's to keep the economy from "overheating" and to keep inflation in check.
But wouldn't rising inflation slow down the economy anyway since consumers wouldn't be able to afford as much?
So the Fed raises rates to slow down the economy to prevent inflation from slowing down the economy? Am I missing something here?
