capitalism breaks down far before technology deals with scarcity. As profit rates get lower and lower it starts to break down as an engine for growth, and at the same time that infusions of debt through monetary and fiscal policy do less and less to put growth back on track during recessions. Eventually, people will need to look to other ways to have consistent growth, and I doubt capitalism would be able to survive as it begins to fail to deliver the goods.
