There's been a lot of discussion about this and it seems it's all about the nickel... at least that's what articles can be found. I've heard a specific figure for silver in a Tesla but I won't put it out there as there's no way to verify that. But, next generation batteries will use silver but how much is up for debate. Some articles I've read about that make it seem it's a small amount of silver but that could be a deliberate misrepresentation or a simple misrepresentation due to lake of understanding.

My retarded guess is that for a next generation car battery it might need a few kilograms of silver. At current prices that wouldn't be a problem and while a significant part of the car cost... not a deal breaker.
