Dating apps categorize their users into attractiveness tiers and will only show you people from your tier.
They will also occasionally show people from the next tier up to keep you enticed, but they will never show you people that are a tier below. It's bad for business if you have a beautiful user but you show them ugly people too often, they'll just delete the app.
