Legal protections, like physical protections, assume certain things about society that will not be true for much longer. A safe assumes that a burglar won't hold your daughter down in front of you and cut her fingers off with pruning shears until you give up the combination. Trusts assume a legal framework that isn't run by diversity appointees with simmering racial hatred for you. Neither of those are likely to hold in the future.
