the point is if you want to be efficent and if you only want XMR you have to mine the most profitable crypto with your GPU (ETH so far). CPU mining isn't proftable "right now" with Monero. But as you mentioned if you "knew", you would have kept mining BTC with you CPU and earn ~0.004$ per day when we where in 2011-2012 (1 BTC around 5-15$ equals ~0.005 BTC now)
