Feminine is the root, it births everything, good and evil and everything in between, thus chaos. Masculine creates order from chaos, like all the hero-kings. Grendel’s mother spawned the evil creature, and Beowulf slayed it to protect all the innocents. That’s the idea in a lot of ancient mythology, so it seems.

I forget the Norse stories, but they’re especially interesting in this regard.
