It's actually really easy. Start by watching Yuru Camp. I'm sure you'll need some unmentioned stuff like knife and whatever, but bring two lighters and a bunsen burner in case you can't find dry wood, bring extra food in case you can't catch fish, bring water in case you can't find a clean source of running water or don't want to cook and filter unclean water. You can bring a saw and sisalrope and make your own tent even, fir tree is great for roofing, but you can also bring tarpaulin. First thing you do when you get somewhere is prepare the place to sleep and relax. Bring a map and a compass if you're not very familiar in the area (relying on internet and gps isn't ideal) and a backup phone turned off that you've fully charged in case you need to call someone. Depending on where you're going you should also tell someone you trust where you're going and what day you're coming back so people know to look for you if you haven't come home and can't be reached. It would suck if you fell and broke your legs and couldn't get a signal and couldn't even reach anyone to come save you.
Also watch Yuru Camp. You are going to pretend the girls are there with you for motivation. Optionally, bring a real girl instead. You'll have a cozy time.

If you ever go to a carnival be sure to win a plushie and give it to him. He might be embarassed so be sure to ask if he's really sure he doesn't want one since you think they're pretty cool and had one at his age. I'm assuming he's young and in the boys are tough phase.
