Well for me its not a star unless nuclear fusion causes the body of mass to shine, it's one of those situations where its clear cut like an engine being on or off.

I've heard that as well. The only thing I can say about Jupiter when it comes to being a star is that a handful of checks had been reached but it failed its ascension from planet status (though I think I'm being way too generous even in this regard when the bigger Hot Jupiters exist in spades).
