2/2 I looked at a dollar today and for the first time found it covered it magic memes. A pyramid with an eye, an eagle recalling the marrion reforms and gripping a watered down fasces. A bunch of neoclassicall modern temples. Most importantly the faces of rulers. The guys on top are made into gods who can imbue scraps of nothingness with cultural power more important than any physical thing. Would you rather have the object you most desire or one billion paper and metal totems? The totems of course because they are more valuable! But something has changed hasnt it? The old magic envinced symbols created by the powerful. You are meant to be loyal to these faces and symbols, thats what gives them the magic! But something beautiful has happened, there is a blossoming alternative fiat that comes from the ordinary person, the serf, the peasant. The everybody and nobody. The magical meaning doesnt come from fealty or submission but from mirth and prankishness. The totem is not imbued with authoritative symbolism but adorned with happy blessings. Not symbols that we have been commanded to be loyal to, but that one thing which is always loyal to us. It does not bear the face of a ruler. Some fine day in some far flung future, a bored schoolkid will learn about what came before and why and how it changed. They will grin ear to ear and be proud of being a person.
