They take it out of the stock price. You can't tell when/where, but that's where it comes from. You probably already know, but you can find their expense ratio (the amount they charge) online. Generally, you want one with a less than 0.75% expense ratio.

Yeah, some STEM. The thing is though, everyone thinks they're the exception and they are going to be SO FUCKING RICH. But of all the rich people I've met, they all came from money. Major in STEM and you will have a comfortable, middle-class life. If you can go to a GREAT college, you might make it; otherwise, it is best to remember that everyone (except three idiots) majors in STEM and the income is never as good as you think it is.

If you want a surefire job, go into a field with high income AND high turnover rates AND you are uniquely qualified for. Best example: nursing.
