Sort of a simulation yes your right, it's more like waking up from a dream then a simulation ending though. Worlds without end you dream until you wake up, which is funny considering the conotations of "being woke" in modern society and how close yet how far away they are. It is a shared dream though, there are real people here with you in your dream. Ignoring this fact however has an evolutionary advantage, so in a funny way even though you can know your dreaming you ignore it, yet in the same sense its wise to ignore it because the dream is also real.
Since it is just a dream the answer to life after death is anything you can think of. An all powerful AI could resurrect you ala Rokos bassilisk, an alien race could bring you back to life, or simply you could just never let the dream end. Endless posibilities, you just have to make it true.
