The entire reason why humans (and animals in general) care about aesthetics is because it gives us a good indicator at how likely that this person will survive and how healthy they are. If it wasn't a good indicator, we simply wouldn't even have the concept of good looks and bad looks.

Also it's a frustrating myth that females don't care about looks whereas males are the only ones that do. This is blatantly untrue and can easily be observed just by the hoardes of anecdotal evidence you see from day to day, as well as online dating statistics and pure common sense. The difference between males and females is that both males and females care about attractiveness, however females add many more criteria that males need to fill whereas males usually just end it there. Why? Females are the limiting factor when it comes to reproduction and therefore have all the sexual and romantic power (which leads to hidden political power). Females are the sexual selectors and males are the sexual competitors.

This applies not to humans but to almost every animal that has the male-female dynamic.

I don't think any woman ever loves for "who you are"; I don't think you can just "be yourself" and someone will love you. A woman usually just stays with you if you're handsome and/or wealthy and/or you can provide some other benefit to her. If a woman stays with you for your money and you suddenly lose a lot of your net worth, she will probably leave you and look for someone richer. What about beauty? If a woman stays with you because you're handsome and you suddenly become horribly disfigured like pic related, she will drop your sorry ass and go fuck some other Chad.

And you know what's the catch? That you will SURELY lose your beauty over time. Maybe not as much as a disfigured marine, but you'll grow older. Whereas, when it comes to money, you always have a chance of making more, if you're smart. Making money is a battle you can win; as for aging, there is not too much you can do with our current technology. So I believe money is much more important than beauty, and more reliable.
