schwab was in a much better financial position than SVB and doesn't have the same kind of customers that SVB has. schwab has a lot of retirement accounts; people aren't going to just yeet their retirement accounts out of schwab en masse within a day like VC firms did to SVB. I'm doubtful that they;ll even need fed money, but with the fed showing that they're willing to helicopter in billions of dollars to rescue banks who have exposure to low interest bonds from pre rate hikes, I don't see how schwab faces financial trouble in any scenario short of global nuclear war. if you look at the amount they're buying, relative to their existing holdings, it's insignificant, 0.37%
if they thought bitcoin was a good buy at 20k, they'd be buying a lot more to really move the needle and lower their average price
the fact that they're not doing that tells me they have no more capacity to borrow, or no confidence we're near a bottom
