i also don't know enough about zinc or have any other zinc coins besides a few of the 1 & 5 Reichspfennigs (pic related), these are the ones that are usually fairly cheap and they are still pretty abundant on ebay or other places. though i need to go back through them and separate them because have them all in the same bag. 1s and 5s were made of zinc, aluminum, and bronze. Not sure if the 50 Reichspfennig I have is zinc or nickel- going to have to weigh it but I think it is zinc off-hand.
I don't know if the difference in composition was due to needing specific metals for different purposes during war, especially since the bronze is pre 1940 and the aluminum and zinc seem to be from 1940 and after.
